I would like to trade fig trees for 2 or 3 sizable pawpaw trees, within reasonable driving distance, ideally. Any thoughts on best foliage and fruit pawpaw cultivars for the Allegheny plateau (northcentral West Virginia)? Shenandoah, Allegheny, Susquehanna? Would also consider a Mulberry tree or two.

Tony, I've a lot of 1st yeR seedlings I can mail. 3 fit in a priority box OK. Only about 4-6" tall, but that's typical for the 1st year. Most are wild seedlings, some are PA Golden seedlings which allegedly run true to seed. FYI, the varieties you mentioned are under patent protection.

Thanks, Kelby. I think I'll go with seedlings as a last resort. I'm impatient with pawpaws because to me the fruit pales in comparison to figs. Patent shouldn't be an issue, shouldn't it? since I have zero interest in selling pawpaw anything. Have a couple odd holes in the yard that I would like to plug with something native like pawpaw or, also and otherwise, mulberry. My potted mulberry was killed by a late freeze so I want something of size that I can plug right into the ground on both accounts. Otherwise, I'll go with more figs!Tony WV 6b

Patent gets tricky, not worth digging into! England's is always my suggested vendor if no one has anything. Just let me know if you want seedlings, happy to send some.

Let me know if you want a seedling in the spring. I have a good many seeds from Jerry Lehman pawpaws that I bought at the Ohio Pawpaw Festival. The seeds are currently being stratified and I'll be planting them in tree pots in January or February.Bryant...Franklin County, VA...Zone 7a. Wish List: a 32 hour day....more sleep

Thanks for the offers. Figs haven't taught me patience for other fruit trees. And then to lose a real nice mulberry that I nursed for several years in a pot...and a bunch of jujube and other trees before that...I'll have to keep seeking the sizable. I lose all apple, peach, and plum blossoms every year to "late" frosts. Maybe I should stick with figs, comfrey, and cosmos.Tony WV 6b
