  • One year old plants with black tips

I'd appreciate any insight as to whether my plants are developing normally or are diseased. I live in Atlantic Canada and planted two high bush bleuberry plants last summer (Duke and Patriot) and when I checked them out this week, the tips of the canes had turned black and were dead--dried right out and easily snapped off. I did some research and some said that this was normal but others made it seem like some stem disease. Has anyone had a similar problem? Thks.

This time of yr in Canada my first though is winter cold damage. I'd prune off the damaged parts and see how the plants do this summer.

It could be Winter dieback or it could be from a fungus or both. Don't over water and carry the dead parts away to be burned or taken away with the trash.

Thanks for the advice! I pruned the blackened tips off and in the course of the week, the plants really picked up and are showing lots of new leaves and buds--no sign of any disease so far so hopefully it was just winter damage.
