Just wanted to post a few pictures of some blueberries I planted in a raised bed at the end of April of 2015. It is now mid June of 2016. These were bought in 1 gallon trade containers. Planted above very poor draining clay soil in a 50/50 mix of peat moss and pine bark mulch. The only fertilizer used is Ammonium sulfate dissolved at a rate of 1 tablespoon per 2 1/2 gallon bucket of water.

Thank you all for the kind words. This row is really pumping out a lot of berries for me. The weather has turned very dry and the ground is rock hard and the grass crunches to walk on. Yesterday, I had to water these guys with tap water from our subdivision well. Wills, any suggestions on a well balanced fertilizer that is suitable for blues?PPP

I have 11 bushes in this row. 4 Ochlockonee, 4 Titan, 2 Baldwin and 1 Powderblue. Being a raised bed has kept the armadillos out. The only species of bird that has given me any problem (that I am aware of) in the past is the mocking bird. My method of protection may not meet everyone's approval. I have not lost enough berries to notice. I have seen a few with peck marks and I am sure that the thrashers and other birds have gotten some. In my other blueberry rows, I have witnessed many times in the past, the mockingbirds getting many berries and they liked to peck and destroy most of my figs. This crime calls for some serious action. I do not live within the city limits. This means that I am allowed to discharge firearms on my property. In other words, a 12 gauge shotgun has removed about 15 mockingbirds this year and I eat blueberries. It is what it is.PPP

Thank you Mai. Yes in one year they grew very fast and produced very many berries. I would not choose Powderblue again. The other three are very good tasting berries The Titans are the earliest, Baldwin ripens next, followed closely by Ochlockonee. Titan is done for this year. Baldwin is coming close to finish, still a lot of berries ripening and Ochlockonee still has many yet to turn. I did not know that Baldwin would be as good as the T's and O's, but they are. I hope yours do as well.PPP

3 feet spacing is OK, I use 4 feet myself. I like to use Holly-Tone for fertilizer as I can buy 20 pound bags. If I could find cotton seed meal I would use that once in awhile too. I need cheaper options myself. I have about 125 container plants in the summer, it can become expensive.Last edited by drew51; 03-02-2017, 10:28 AM.
