So I am growing both of these figs. The DK was bought last year and this year it had 3 breba that were fantastic. The GR I grew this year from a cutting and it is 4 feet tall. Both varieties have main crop figs. Is there any circumstance were these may ripen? I live in CT so no fig wasp

I wish to live long and hope

I have a DK that last year had main crop figs but they ended up dropping. I've heard there are extremely rare instances where a DK's main crop will ripen in non-wasp country but mine dropped last year.

If they don't drop, i wonder how they differ in taste.

My understanding is that the main cop figs won't ripen without pollination. Meanwhile, it takes energy to grow the figs. I have a Zumwalt. I pick off all the little main crop figlets.

My DK has occasionally ripened a few main crop fruit , some were just OK , others very bland , nothing like the very good breba taste of DK.

So even if they ripen they will be mediocre at best?

That has been my limited experience with my DK-RT when it accidentally ripens a few main crop for some , unknown to me , reason.

You must have a mutant cold weather fig wasp in your town. Do any other breba only figs ripen figs for you?

I don't think it is unusual to have a small percentage of main crop figs ripen from a San Pedro with no wasps around; it would be interesting to know the biological explanation.

I've got a couple ripening right now.. These are on a DK I rooted in November so I don't think they could be breba right? Click image for larger version

Did your cutting grow and drop leaves where those figs are ripening? Is so those are main, if no they are breba.

I can't be sure at this point but thank you! That just really helped me to understand how to figure out whether or not I have breba or main crop in the future 👍🏼
