  • Great day to enjoy some Galicia Negra Breba

One of the absolute best Breba i have tried to date. Extremely impressed and my new fav! Was nice to enjoy with some tree ripe nectarine and pluot! What an amazing pairing.
The GN main crop is surprisingly early too, i would say they are about a week away, swelling and turning a purple shade already. Didn’t think this variety was so early.
share your experience with this too or let me know your thoughts!

Looks good! Was expecting some of those this summer, but only ended up with 3 flavor kings. We had a really strong windy storm that knocked most of the flowers off in April.

Like so many there seems to be 2 versions ive seen for Galicia Negra. 1 with Distinct long, thin VdB raspberry latte type leaves, and the other that resembles Kathleens Black with big Wide lobed leaves that are very very different.

by seeing your fruit I will bet your leaves are long & skinny. Yes? No??

Mine seems to be a real stubborn fruiter unfortunately. Big & healthy with no fruit. Bummer. Regardless which type you have, good fruit is good fruit!!

Since growing figs is so tied to, and unique to a grower's local climate and growing conditions, I wish people would disclose their location when talking about a fig variety and how good it is growing where they happen to be. Without that information on their location it is impossible for a reader to relate to that story.

Well hot dang they are spot on to what i have! How old is yours? I wonder if year 3 will get me better results. Thanks for the pics!!! Cant wait to try mine. Your breba reminded me of a Vallecalde breba i just ate so had to inquire.

This cutting was from Harvey and it was rooted 3 leafs ago. I typically find that all of my trees come to life at around 3 years. usually having at least 10 or more fruits set on a single trunk. That is for my growing style which is hands off and let the tree do the work. Only using osmocote and vermicompost in mix.
So i would have to look again but if vallecalde is nero 600m, breba on that tree is very different, large round and not oblong. Also not as good as the breba on GN for sure. Good luck on yours!

I am in zone 6b, North-Central NJ; I also have a Galicia Negra, rooted last year from a cutting from Figaholics.com. It almost died during this last winter. But, fortunately a new shoot started from the soil level, now about 3 feet tall, but no fruit, yet. Would love to see some fruit on it next year.
