  • Fig Boss ???

I knew Ross Raddi, a member here, posts fig-related videos on YouTube but have hardly ever watched any of those videos. Yesterday, while just surfing thru some videos on figs, came across one from Ross Raddi.

He calls himself FIG BOSS now.

    Very interesting.

I think a lot of the things people are complaining about on here might have to do with how the youtube algorithms work. If you want to do well on youtube and actually make money on there, you have to appease the algorithm. 10-15 min vids, several videos per week consistently, flashy thumbnails, intriguing titles, catchy name, good editing, etc. Those are all things that help to make sure youtube keeps suggesting your videos and that you keep building and withholding an audience. Ross is just playing it smart. Youtube is pretty competitive nowadays and it's not easy to keep churning out videos every day to stay relevant, and the fact that he does it while still keeping the videos informative and interesting most of the time is pretty impressive imo.

TJwestPA I agree. However, I just wanted to point out that there are also folks who have a youtube channel and post an occasional video with no motivation other than to share information with people/friends.

Rewton For sure! I have a channel myself but only have 3 videos posted. It would be great to make money doing that but I don't have enough motivation and confidence to be creating videos all the time. Plus you have to reach a quota of 4000 watch hours and 1000 subscribers each year before youtube will let you become monetized (while following all their guidelines). Bleh, no thanks. Youtube is too strict anymore and not very friendly towards small channels.

I watched his early videos on other fruit and their was so much incorrect info. I remember his advice about raspberries was pretty bad. I never watched anymore. About 6 years ago he started growing figs. Maybe it was sooner? He soon relayed what he learned here to his videos. So if you’re wondering why people have derogatory comments about him, now you know why. The advice was for people here and when you use other people’s advice and pretend it’s your own it can upsetting to the authors of the advice. I tried to give bad advice just to see if he repeated it. No just kidding. I’m still learning myself. I only give advice to subjects I have experience with.

Yeah, I think a lot of youtubers do that, unfortunately. When you have to put out several videos a week you're bound to end up trying to talk about things that you really don't know much about just to put out content regularly. Those who post rarely or sporadically have a hard time getting new subscribers and views.

Ok...gotta weigh in here. For whatever it's worth...His mushroom advice is really bad, too. Seriously makes me cringe. Ugh! I had to turn that one off. I do enjoy many of his fig videos, though. Variety reviews can be really helpful. When you are researching a new variety, it can be helpful to see it in video format.

Ross has good videos IMO. I think like 99.9 percent of us here. He gives what he knows/thinks is great info while learning himself. You show me any video and i can pick apart some aspect of it. PLUS, and finally, Look at his videos and tell me his Figs don't look amazing! About the only other you-tuber that has maybe better looking stuff is Millennial Gardener.

I think the most important fact here is that if you were going to put yourself out there on YouTube & social media then you better be ready for public backlash & scrutiny no matter which way it goes.

I'm going to share a little secret. Something that I've never mentioned before. I'm going to tell you all why and how, after the years and many issues, that I've been able to remain very happy with my ourfigs family on this forum.

                    Are you ready?

I don't agree with everything posted.

I don't even like every single thing about every single member here..... But none of us are just ONE THING

                    So....

Regardless of the personality, I really try my best to find something (anything) that I like or find interesting about everyone.... at least as much as I can.

Personally I find this much more peaceful, than to look for something negative and dwell on that one particular thing.

                    That's just me.....

Now, somebody please find me a word that rhymes with Giuseppe....
