Say you just cant eat another Dessert King breba from a pot grow tree. Next to it a little later a Valle Negra has a plump black breba that is as good as its main crop in the early summer sun. You think maybe cull the DK and think about ways to make more VN brebas. Of course dont prune this years wood so it can grow brebas. But how about taking off all the main crop figs? Would that pump more energy into breba bud production? Would removing the main crop really need to be done as soon as they appear to focus energy on the breba buds? I only ate 1 so far, there are 2 more left actually drying on the tree during this weeks warm dry spell. I need more of these! Improved Celeste is about to ripen its first figs, but they would never be as good as that VN breba!!

My Valle Negra (grown from HarveyC cuttings) went to the compost pile. Breba too few and main crop too late in my location.“The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.” – Source Unknown MA 5b/6a

I am trying the same thing this year with my UCHD. I need that breba far more than I need another main crop honey fig. I'm removing the MC figs as they form in hopes for a better breba crop next year. My Valle Negra is loaded with its first figs this year. Glad to hear it also has a good breba crop to look forward to next year hopefully.Angel #1 at 2 Angels Mushrooms & Figs-Chattanooga, TN Zone 7-B
