Last fall I obtained Cherry Cordial as an Air Layer. It is a good grower and has beautiful leaves with red petioles. Early this spring here in florida it began to push fruit with its first flush of leaves. They were very tiny and turned red quickly and fell off. Here in floirda in the spring we get a dry season late. During this season the tree had about two more flushes of leaves and produced a massive amount of figlets. They slowly began to get bigger and bigger in size, but eventually all just dried up at that size, turned red and fell off. After the dry period here in florida, it tends to rain for a few weeks every afternoon. The Tree seemed to like the rain and put on about 3 flushes of new growth. At the third flush is when the fruit began to actually swell and it would take about 3 days from swell to hanging low, soft and ripe. During this time the rain was at a normal pace and rained on average about 1-2x/week. When I cut each one of them open I was very surprised to find that they looked like they partially ripened. It looked like they tried to ripen and it had the potential showing the red pulp, but as you can see in the pics below it just never got there. I've had about 5 ripen this way so I consider this a beginning, as with figs, I know some varieties can take more time to develop to their potential.
A question I am curious about is, has anyone in California grown this fig from a cutting or an Air Layer and when it was in its first year or two it ripened figs like this or were they more accurate to the pictures we have seen previously posted?
I have included a picture of the tree for reference.
