BackwoodsSouthernLawyer and I are pleased to announce the speakers for The Fig Frolic in Chattanooga, TN on Aug. 28th. First, we would like to remind those who will be traveling in for this year’s gathering that the hotel reservation deadline was Aug. 6th BUT, they will still honor it IF they are not filled. We have negotiated a discounted rate at a brand new hotel, Springhill Suites by Marriott. It is less than 1 mi. away. Call the hotel directly at (423) 301-5669 and ask for the 'Fig Frolic' rate.
Now for our exciting announcements! The 10:00 a.m. workshop will be presented by drbud , Dr. Hilliard Lawler, DVM. He will demonstrate “How to do a Patch Graft.” Dr. Lawler has been an avid fig grower for many years and grows a wide range of figs at Huckabee Hill, his home in Indianola, MS built in the 1870s by his wife's great great uncle. He is the town veterinarian in Indianola. In addition to figs, Dr. Lawler is also an ardent admirer of daylilies and has worked since the 1990s to make Huckabee Hill a showcase for daylilies. He breeds exciting new daylily varieties, many of which have been registered with the American Hermerocallis Society. You can visit his website here: https://bloomsonthebayou.com/
After his workshop, we will have time to mingle, shop, and trade, followed by lunch. The caterer will deliver your boxed lunch at 11:45 a.m. You may place your lunch order here:https://my-site-103858-103651.square.site/fig-festival
Following lunch, the White Elephant Fig Tree Giveaway will happen. We want everyone to leave with a new fig tree of their own to take home and grow. We are counting on our veteran figgers to bring extras!
Our Keynote Speaker will present at 1:00 p.m. jmrtsus , John Russell. He will share with us on the topic, "The Figs of Louisiana." John says, "𝘐'𝘮 𝘢 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘱𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘦𝘥 𝘊𝘢𝘫𝘶𝘯 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘕𝘦𝘸 𝘖𝘳𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘯𝘴. Everyone is invited and we sincerely hope that you will be able to attend this event. It is always a thrill to meet people in person whom we’ve only known online. This is a great opportunity for making new fig friends. The first Fig Frolic in 2019 was just an absolute blast! It is such a treat to spending time with people who speak your language! There is no charge to attend this event. We do ask that you pre-register so that we can better plan. Once you register, you will receive an email with tickets. Bring those with you so that we can scan them upon your arrival to get you checked in quickly. You can then drop off your White Elephant Trees at that table, and any trees you want to trade at the Trading Table. More details on how all of this will work will be emailed to those who have registered as we draw closer. We will also post on the Facebook Event page, too.https://www.facebook.com/events/477258646620804/
