Has anybody got any dark figs on their trees this year? I've picked about a half dozen figs and they are all white. A bunch more ripening and they are white as well.

Really looking forward to hearing the answer to this one Art. Is CdCBN a chimera and some of us perhaps have a cutting from a branch that's all one or all the other maybe?

Art, did you have any dark figs last year? That's funny because mine is just starting to ripen figs now and I should be eating figs within a week. All the figs that are swelling have put on a dark blush over the past two days. They aren't jet black but will probably be relatively dark by the time they ripen. I don't see any light figs swelling yet. I'll post my results. I'm wondering if anyone in the U.S. outside of wasp country will get the clear dark/light pattern of figs that MP shows in photos. Or maybe it takes a few years of maturity for this to happen? Last year I saw a range of colors but it was more of a continuum rather than all or nothing color. At any rate, based on last year's figs it is a keeper - definitely unlike any other variety that I have.

Steve, is it the taste that stands out, or is it just visually different? I thought it would be similar in taste to the other CdD varieties.

For me, it is the taste, the health and vigor of the plant, and the fact that it is a mid-season fig (as opposed to the other CdDs) that makes it a worthwhile fig to grow. I'm not too into the visual appeal (e.g. the rimadas, variegated leaves, etc.) but that's just me.

No dark figs last year or this. It's a great grower. But my Blanc, Grise, & Negra are as well.

I have read that the dark ones take longer to appear. Someone on fb said that.

How was the taste? We have had a lot of rain lately and the ants are really going after the figs on this variety. Hopefully I will have some fruit to take photos of soon.

It's nice and sweet. My wife really likes this variety. More of a honey type.

Art, here are the first three figs I picked this year off of my CdDB-N in its 3rd season. So far mine seem to all have a light color around the stem and a darker blush on the bottom half of the fig. We have had rain the last couple days and the insects (ants, yellowjackets, other wasps) are really going for the figs - especially this variety - so I picked them one day earlier than I would have liked. Two of these were pretty much ripe but the largest was slightly under-ripe. You are correct - this variety is sweet. It's one of the sweetest I have. Even the somewhat under-ripe fig had significant sweetness. I was thinking it is more of a sugar profile than honey but so far it is quite sweet but not a lot of complexity. I showed leaves in a thread last year but I'll try to remember to get some leaf pics tomorrow and post them. Early on, I had a lot of one lobed leaves but now it seems to have leaves more characteristic of the Col de Dame varieties. The flavor profile and fruit shape are different though. Since our two plants came from the same batch of cuttings I am interested to see results from others who are growing this variety. Hey, if your wife likes it then it is a winner!

I think you are right about the sugar profile.

Steve definitely looks like you have the darker ones ripening there.
