  • Three Ripe Figs- BG, BMKK and PR

Today I picked my first ripened Battaglia green along with Black Madeira and Paretjal Rimada.
Without a doubt I needed to allow the figs an extra day or two to fully ripen. The BMKK and the PR are grafted onto the same frankenfig. I find it interesting that the Paretjal Rimada had the beautiful cracking.
All three figs were sweet and delicious.
Without question the BMKK was the BEST of the three.
Black Madeira is king of figs for a reason.
So far it’s my favorite fig this Summer.

I was surprised to see the cracking and the closed eye despite the humid, rainy weather that we have been having.

Great looking figs. Did you start them in a greenhouse or is it warm enough that they are in ground and got started so early?

My trees are in the ground.
No greenhouse …just hot, humid weather. 😊

I know Battaglia pretty well and that one looks like it could use more time ripening. Try waiting till that BG is starting to shrivel and you wont believe the taste.

                      You are 100% correct.
This was my first fig that appeared near ripe and I wanted to try it before it got stolen.
I still learning how to determine when the green gifs are ripe.

Agree with cvarcher. Not saying Battaglia is better than BMKK (I don't have that variety though I do have Preto), but Battaglia is awesome when it gets fully ripe. Our family has liked it the best so far when compared to Adriatic JH, Green Ischia and Strawberry Verte, though the differences are subtle and some individual figs from any one variety may be better/worse depending on the day/conditions. Here was a Battaglia from a couple days ago.

Considering your collection, this is quite the endorsement.
Last year I was on a quest to collect and compare all of the black Madeira synonyms.
Considering how good this one is, I’m glad that I decided to collect them.
