Purple passion is a fig cultivar “discovered” by Heidi Sheesly of TreeSearch Farms in Houston, TX.
It is a dwarf BT type fig. I’ve tried (to no avail) to find out what this is a “sport” of but TreeSearch won’t share details about the fig’s origin.
While the figs are beautiful - more of a deep plum- red, they taste like an average Brown Turkey fig. Moderately sweet.
This fig serves as an EXCELLENT rootstock.
I did not cover my tree and all but one graft on this tree survived the epic freeze that we had.
Nearly everything I’ve ever attempted to graft onto this tree has taken.
This year I allowed the tree to keep one tiny native branch. Today I picked the first ripe fig for 2021.
