  • Black Mission is ripening

I love my Black Mission and no one can convince me otherwise 😁 Picked my first ripe ones of the summer today (plus a random ICON). This is how I like them best: hard droop from the stem and slightly wrinkly. Happens overnight.

Perfectly ripe. Highly underrated. I had a couple last November that dried on the tree.

They're so good. Taste is like black cherry and black raspberry had a baby. Only get the good flavors if I can be patient and wait long enough, and also I think the wasp helps a lot. Skin is just chewy enough to be satisfying without tipping over into fruit leather. Even when perfectly ripe they are often reluctant to detach from the branch and require a firm snap at the right angle. Incredibly unsatisfying if picked too soon.

Oh I like those, too. I'll eat any fig that can't outrun me.

Tasted like it, but I ate them too fast to do the seed test. Will slow down and try with the next batch!
