  • Adventures in grafting and air layering

    I removed some grafts and air layers today.

    This first was a Malta Black grafted onto Susser Georg. While still a graft, I began training it to be planted as a low cordon. I know that's a lot of growth for those roots, but maybe with a lot of TLC, I'll be able to keep most of it:

    Second is BMkk grafted onto Brown Turkey. I decided to give it a little more time before removing it, so I just exchanged the cup for a bigger container:

        I'm always surprised at the different rates at which figs root, grow, etc.

        Below is Del San Jaume Gran grafted onto JH Adriatic. I went to check the air layer today and it was full of roots, so I removed it earlier than anticipated. I set it exactly four weeks ago.
