  • Beltrana, Burgan Unk & A Sangue….is this what heaven feels like?

Days like today are what make this hobby so enjoyable. These figs were outstanding in so many different ways…

Beltrana is a beautiful large fig (60-70g range) with an incredibly thick pulp. I’ve been waiting two years for this fig and it did not disappoint.

Burgan Unk turns a very attractive purple/turquoise when it starts to ripen. The skin was chewy and the pulp was nice and sweet.

A Sangue is a large fig with one of the most beautiful pulps once caprified. Thick, syrupy pulp with a moderate berry flavor and good sweetness. The skin was light and melted in the mouth. This one was truly excellent.

Hmm... I have been looking at A Sangue, but put it off because I hadn’t heard anything good about it. But it’s a good one in your estimation? May have to get a cutting or two this winter.

If you have the wasp, it’s a MUST have. If you’re still looking by winter, let me know and I’ll send you a cutting or two.

Evan Well then I am putting it on my list if it’s a must have! 😁 Thanks!

Wow Evan those look amazing! Have a few A Sangue ripening on a small tree from you, hopefully they don’t drop. Beltrana and Burgan Unk I painfully have been plucking figs off this year, trees are just too small.

I hope your A Sangue figs hang on! I will caution that my first year figs on this variety did not ripen properly but hopefully that isn’t the case for you. Are your Beltrana or Burgan in-ground? Or pots?

Evan Thanks for the heads up. Figured they'll probably drop or not ripen proper, but though I would leave em on the tree and see. All my trees are in pots only unfortunately!

bkkchris I was going to say Burgan grows like a monster in-ground but if space is tight then I understand. I wish I could put all of our trees in-ground

I actually didn’t realize Burgan was that color either until I saw Steve’s (Fruitnut) photos. It’s easy on the eyes!

Thanks! Those are some heartless devils, to be showing their enticements off that way. Your're a lucky man, Evan!

Just double-checking: the 1st two photos are Beltrana, the 2nd two are Burgan, and the final three are A Sangue, right? (There's a way to make captions appear when you hover over a photo here, but I haven't read up on it yet either. All I see when I hover is the photo's ID number.)

That's correct! I can probably rename the images before I upload to make it easier to identify. I'll try to remember next time.
