  • Bass’ Favorite Fig (BFF)

    BFF, excellent fig so far in Zone 7, NM. A solid, productive fig with a rich flavor. Credits to Bass (Trees of Joy) for introducing this one.

            Great question.
            I’ve read that it’s a splitter so I’ve resisted adding BFF but the photos are enabling.

            New Mexico averages less than 14” of rain annually…

          Pardon a possible repeat question or inquiry but what is BFF's real name or more known variety name? I too have my BFF!

            Ha ha, I was poking fun! Bill’s Favorite Fig is a fully ripened LSU Tiger!

          It doesn't split too badly here, but does a little. I do get several perfect ones. It's a great fig that comes in around mid season here..

            Pardon my ignorance, how is it different from I258? To my untrained eye it bears a passing resemblance.

              It is substantially different from I258 — I grow them both.

              @PacNorWreck

              A lot of figs look similar and unless you have grown them side-by-side, many appear identical. I can assure you though that both of these varieties are quite different. Taste, texture, shape, and eye.

              Thanks all! Often, all I see are shape, coloration, and in the case of the really late / premium figs, that they have that magical jelly syrup interior.

            Another one from yesterday. More ripe and excellent flavor. We’ve had local rain here and I have not seen any splitting or souring so far. I know others have reported splitting issues. We do not have the fig wasp here so these are not caprified.
