  • Dutch fig growers

Or other ( Western) European fig growers.
What varieties work best for you, and where did you acquire those varieties?

My family members would love to grow figs, something we thought was impossible in the Netherlands. So they're very happy to learn that it is indeed possible.

Now trying to figure out what varieties and where to get those.i was thinking bringing airlayers, but don't think they will survive an 9 hour flight.. so I might have to let go of that ( wild) idea.

I would be surprised if it were legal to import live plants from outside the EU to the Netherlands. Have you checked into it? If it is legal, I don't think an air layer would have any problem with a 9 hour flight. They spend days in the mail with no problem.

Sparky, the rules are less strict compared with the US. Obviously I will look into how stringent they are.

Agree with Sparky; had a small fig tree that took 12 days to arrive.

Thought I was going to contact the seller about it possibly being dead by the time I got it but it was good; they do well in those "not perfectly sealed" mailing packages.

Here's a quick sample of some figs that are known to be cold tolerant:Hope this helps....

      Really.

Have you had the chance to sample it? If yes; have you sampled VDB before and does your VDB taste just as good?

Lol unfortunately I haven't tasted the VDB yet. I'm going by the opinions of everyone who is raving about it.

However, I have eaten pounds and pounds of black and green and yellow figs.

      What? Is that normal?

Tell me this is normal cuz you know the stories about eating figs make you regular but eat too many and then it's grease lightning.

You guys are professionals! Yet has my palate tasted the flesh of a fresh fig.

Let me pretend so I dont look like it's the first time throwing a ball:

Aye yo figs? Man I've had them all Chief!

I have mailed several young fig plants, packed into strong tubular cardboard cores of wrapping film. They all survived several days of mishandling by post carrier without problem. Taped a plastic bag with some moist soil around their roots before placing into the tube, for keeping plants hydrated.

Sulev, I guess it makes sense since rooted plants take several days in regular mail. And based on how the packages arrive, they aren't being exactly gentle.
