  • Bass' Favorite Fig 2021

It might not be the best pick from my tree, but I want to remind everyone that my tree is only 6 months old, and it was a scion back in February. This young tree already produced 2 great figs and looking forward to get more.

Heh, my BFF was one of my most pathetic rooted cuttings. It grew six leaves and then stalled. Finally now in late August it looks like it might be preparing to grow a new leaf. Hopefully it will grow better next year.

Mine was a terrible grower in year one. It is much better now that it is in year two!

I like to compare this to other figs. On the berry flavor scale (if that is a thing) for me White Madeira #1/Adriatic JH has the most intense berry flavor, then Smith/Pastiliere and then Socorro Black/Bourjasotte Grise (which is in the middle) and so on. I think BFF is similar to Bourjasotte Grise in that sense, but also sweeter and it has larger fruits in general with more syrup and jammy texture. I might get a better quality fruit next year, but not a bad start at all.

I am kicking myself that I killed my Bass' Favorite by potting soil contains not fully composted quail manure.
