  • Black Greek (Marius), Ruby Rose, Cavaliere Bianco and Atreano Gold 2021

OK, so we went out of town for a week and left the trees in the good hands of our daughters. Quite a few surprises when we returned. Left to right, Black Greek, Ruby Rose, Cavaliere Bianco and Atreano Gold. Sorry about the lighting, it's about to rain and very cloudy.

    1) Black Greek - Great Etna, 75 days to ripen and it tasted like a chewy strawberry, good crunch and nice texture. First year in a 10 gallon pot.

    2) Ruby Rose - Big surprise this year. Last year, I ripened this one on 10/30 (107 days) as a first year tree and it was amber inside and mildly sweet. This year, it's second in a 10 gallon pot, and this first fruit has ripened in 94 days, and it is very dark red inside. Very grape-like flavor. There are others on the tree, so we will watch closely. I suspect last year's look was due to the immaturity of the tree and the cold weather late ripening.

    3) Cavaliere Bianco - First year tree in a 5 gallon pot, 96 days to ripen. Sweet and very watery, mild crunch. This one will need dryer weather as we have had rain which affected it.

    4) Atreano Gold - Third year in ground tree, 75 days to ripen. Super sweet and very thick, honey like flavor, delicious. Still the same sugar bomb as last year. Greener exterior this year than last.
