  • Have to watch where you put those fingers

No, I did not cut another finger off

Was cleaning out the spray heads in the overhead watering system in the greenhouse and grabbed my two step step stool to reach the higher ones. When I grabbed it I felt a spider web so flipped the stool over. Luckily for me she was not aggressive as I put my fingers right next to her eggs.

With that title, I thought you lost another finger!

          Is that a black widow?

From the pic, I think it looks like a Brown Widow, especially with the spikey egg sacks. Its one of two spider varieties I squish in my yard; the other is Black Widow. Everybody else is welcome.

I've been bitten by a black widow before; talk about painful! Thankfully a friend had a stun gun and it zapped the pain away.

                      Fabio,

Golden Orb weaver and like Hershell they are my favorite spider. They are BIG. They are also very docile and make huge webs sometimes 6 feet across. Some of you may cringe at this but I like to pet them, you can run your finger down their back, they seem to like it They are very common here. Will take a picture of one in the greenhouse.

Here is one, up in the peak of the greenhouse.

I love watching black widows when I come across them. They're the most beautiful spider, I think. They'll leave you alone if you leave them alone. I only kill them if they're in the house or where the kids could play.

Still, I wouldn't want to accidentally threaten one as I've heard it's bite is quite painful. Good thing you noticed it in time.
