BigFig,
This seems odd. I concur with what the previous posters have said. JF&E always answers and they are good, hard working, smart people. If they have not responded, keep trying because (from my perspective) that is out of character. I will share this thread with them and I am sure you will be taken care of.jimmie aka JD | tallahassee.fl | zone.8b | davistating.eBay

Joe, this is Brandy from Just Fruits and Exotics. Jimmy sent me an email, noting your posted thread. I am so sorry your email was not responded to in a more timely matter. Figs are very sensitive to cold weather, and we have to wait until there is no danger of freezing at any point along the UPS trucking path. We check the weather weekly to make sure, the packages we send will not be damaged in transit. You are in New Jersey and the weather has been terrible on the transit path. We will get your package out as soon as we can safely. Thank you for your patience.
On another note, I’d like to thank everyone who posted kind things about our nursery. This is a wonderful forum, I had not known about it until Jimmy brought it to my attention. Good information, we’ll contribute when we can.

You have to go there in person to reallly appreciate everything. I can walk around for hours there. They also carry plants that are just hard to find at other nurseries. Tremendous selection of ornamentals too. Plus by traveling and picking it up you can hand select and get their pick up price discount. If you are within four hours you should consider the trip. You'll be impressed by this nursery.Darkman AKA Charles in Pensacola South of I-10 zone 8b/9a

Agree with Darkman and JD completely.
Wife and I drove up there in the fall a few years ago, for me about a 3.5 hour trip one way. I was looking for grapes and when we arrived not only did Brandy have a great selection in pots they had the varieties growing on the fences around the property. She actually went around and picked grapes from all the varieties and brought them to us to sample them. When we had made our choices a couple of the plants in the nursery she thought were too picked over so she drove up in to the fields where they have more stock in pots and brought more vines down. When we were checking out she noticed one of the vines had a small wound near the base and even though I said it was fine she would have none of it and insisted on driving back up in to the fields and get another one. Top notch.......
She and I also talked about Sweetcrisp blueberries and just how great they were, I often use what she said that day "the sweetcrisps are not just better than every other BB but are a quantum leap better"

Encouraging feedbacks. Looks like it is worth a visit on my next trip to Florida. I have never been to that
part of Florida. On our recent trip to Orlando, my relative got a bunch of tropicals to bring back to Ohio. They
would luv visiting such a nursery especially when others can hang around for hours.

Just ordered a Smith Fig tree from them, the only place that has them in stock....thank God....saved me from a bidding war on Ebay where people are fetching top dollar for twigs, meanwhile I got a 3 gallon plant coming in.....Yay Fruits and exotics.

JD, Please tell me that Smith doesn"t have just the classic Fig taste without complexity??? I see people mentioning hundreds of Figs across the forums, but I'm assuming most of them are just sweet Fig tasting with low and High Brix levels.... I'm trying to get away from the same ol fig tasting varieties, with Col De Dame Figs, Viloette De Bordeux, and Black Mediera....I needd something with Complexity... I already Have Excel for sweet.

Ok Clay, I will tell you (and I will say it again). Good choice. Smith is an excellent variety.
Here is what I wrote about Smith in 2014 (http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox....2014-6994608):
Flavor. Is comparable only to Socorro Black (for me). It is not a sweet fig as there are figs with a sweeter flavor profile. Smith is complex, rich and it has some subtle undertones that I cannot pinpoint - maybe someone who drinks wine will describe it better than I have. It is berry flavored with a slight acidity that makes it finish smoothly on the palate. This is different from Celeste and other sweet figs that have a sugary intense after taste, i.e., almost a sugar burn that beckons for salt or acid to balance it.
Texture. The seeds offer a texture that I prefer. It has a hollow interior and an eye that is not closed and will be a problem in heavy rains. And it is unlikely that this fig can actually concentrate it sugars like others with a closed or better protected eye.

I ordered 2 smiths from them in Dec. Only 1 arrived. I emailed them and they sent another right away. I was very impressed with the service. Also bought and ice cream banna from them and they were very helpful in answering questions.Jeff in 6a
