  • Childhood Cancer Awareness Month - Auction to Benefit St. Jude and OF

September is childhood cancer awareness month. This is near and dear to my heart because I have a good friend whose daughter has fought (in remission now) a pretty advanced cancer. Plus, we had a scare of our own with our 3 year old, which thank God, he is fine. But that was the worst thing I have ever gone through. Unfortunately, so many families have to deal with the real tough news that their kid has cancer.

I don't have any super rare figs ready to auction, but I do have a nice Battaglia Green that is currently in a 7 gal container. So this is what I am offering for the auction. I would like 80% of the payment to go to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and 20% to go to uncle Wills so he can run this forum. I will also match both donations.

I will start the auction now and end it on Friday at 5pm eastern. Whoever wins the auction will have to show proof of the payments and then we can work out a good time for me to ship. I plan on removing the actual container and shipping this bare root. I will shake away some of the soil, because this thing is very heavy right now.

Attached are actual pics of figs produced from this plant. Battaglia Green is great tasting fig that produces beautiful figs. There are quite a few figs on the plant right now, and if you live in the right climate, you should be able to eat some in the next month or so.

You may only view thumbnails in this gallery. This gallery has 4 photos.

    What a great cause.

Sucks being in Canada that fig would look great in my backyard.

So it looks like some people think the Battaglia Green is the same as Gene's Paradiso... I have found some reports that Gene's Paradiso has a bit of peach flavor. Does anyone with the Battaglia Green feel like they are eating a peach???

Congrats to npolaske for being the winning bidder! Please send me a PM with your location and we can work out the logistics on shipping. As a reminder, I am going to match donations.

I hope this accomplished what I really wanted it to accomplish - to bring awareness to September being childhood cancer awareness month - hopefully someone on this forum will find a way to contribute to this important cause on their own as well.

            Thanks.

How did I miss this again. It's not fair! I'm being censored or something! How did I miss this auction and no one told me. Now even Willis or Fabio or Dave didn't even bid for me. I just can't depend on the ones I'm used to depending on. What is the forum coming to. I just can't believe this happend again.

I'm excited to try this fig, even if it doesn't taste like a peach!

I just found that the company I work for will match my donation, which will bring our total donation to St. Jude's to $120!

Nice! I've noticed some Sal's GS taste peachy but only sometimes. Not sure if it's a matter of when they are picked, being young, or what yet.
