  • Hurricane Matthew

The latest model projects Matthew striking the Eastern Fla coast as a Cat 3 hurricane, and only reducing to Cat 2 by the time it hits Wilmington, NC. Time to batten down the hatches, guys.

Lou and the other forum members that will be in the path, you will be in our thoughts and prayers this week...
CA 9b "May you sit under your own fig tree..." This metaphor, in use since Solomon, is a wish for the receiver's spirit to know peace, for their family to be secure, and for their life to be fruitful.

I was happy to see that the latest track pushed it back to the East s bit as they had been moving it more and more west.

        This website is useful:

        https://www.wunderground.com/hurrica...ricane-Matthew

These storms always freak me out, being the midwesterner that I am. With a tornado it pops up and is gone within minutes. With a hurricane you watch as it slowly approaches over a period of days - plenty to time to worry about what could happen.

I grew up in tornado alley, and felt tornados were common place too. I have been in and around dozens of tornados. Including one that demolished the other end of a building that I was in, and one that took off our roof when I was a kid.

Now, after living along the Gulf Coast for close to 20 years and going though a number of large hurricans, I can tell you that you get used to them too. Although I stopped trying to ride them out in-place after Katrina.

Oh, and don't forget the tornados that are spawned off from the hurricanes, just to keep everything even more interesting....

Having said all that, I am very glad that we have had none in the Gulf this year. And I wish all those in the path of this one the best. Hope everyone, and their trees, come through it well.

I won't be be disappointed if the storm decides to split the space between Hatteras and Bermuda and just keep on booking it out to the North Atlantic. No fan of hurricanes.

The latest model depicts a much harsher impact on Florida. It's now showing a deeper inland path of Category 4 intensity. The projected arc will now spare the north-east though...

Oh brother........the newest European models which are historically the most accurate now show that Matthew could hit Florida, make a loop in the Atlantic and hit us again.........are you freaking kidding me?

Wills told me yesterday that he prefers putting up with hurricanes as opposed to the snow that the folks up north deal with. I hope he still thinks so after the next day or two.

One of my chestnut customers in South Carolina wrote me on Wednesday because her Post Office closed early and didn't delivery her mail and she was afraid that she wouldn't get them until Tuesday and wondered if I could do something about it. (??!!) Fortunately, I see they got delivered on Thursday. Hopefully she'll have some heat source to roast them while she hunkers down.

Hope everyone stays safe and property damage is minimal.

Is unfortunate Harvey for these storms. But I can promise you willsc will stay right where he is... couple of bad storms and otherwise nice warm hot weather 360 days a year.... no brainer... the cold and snow here when is bad... is deadly... and the snow stays on ground for months. Rain will dry up. People say " oh but the snow is so pretty" yeah yeah yeah maybe the very first big puffy flake snow of the winter. Is pretty for about 2 minute. Then by next day if it's anywhere near the streets or city it go from pretty white to nasty black filled with garbage and just nasty. It also breaks many trees and roof tops.

Lost power for a few hours but back on now, I'm 100 miles from the east coast........people on that coast are getting pounded. Sure hope Olga is ok, she is taking a direct hit and she is in a flood prone area..
