If the day time temps hold for a couple more weeks, the shuffle might be worth while.

You are right, Dave. Mother Nature really screwed the nation with the weather patterns hitting the country...

There has to be a way to still be able to enjoy at least a couple.

Dave, I feel your pain, I have two six foot trees loaded with figs and only three figs ripend.

Don't "think you can" Know you can!! Get them as close as possible and if you can't shuffle them put in brown paper lunch bag and set on counter couple days. They will ripen. That's how I do mine
A couple of those look like lil oil may help

Aww, they look so close. I'd move it into the garage under lights, lol.

My second year I-258s were disapointing this year also. Last year there were one or two fruit that were late but great, among the best for size, sweetness and fruitiness. This year the one breba didn't ripen until after the first RdB and other figs were ripening. The main crop is still sitting there waiting for Christmas. Hopefully next year will be better.

I tried a couple other trees in my greenhouse but the fruit flies got the figs just when they ripened There starting to soften up a little it's been pretty warm out the next week or so maybe?

The cold is coming saturday and it will stick around. Still, I think they will ripen. I have two at the same stage. They will ripen even in the cold. You are killing it with so many great figs Dave!

I could be wrong but I thought I recalled that Herman2 had some success growing Ital-258 in the ground in NJ. Based on that, I planted mine in ground last May. If it is too late to produce fruit as an in-ground tree here I'll use it as a source of scions to make a multi-graft large container tree representing all late figs. Then comes the greenhouse project...

I had one last week from my potted tree which received no treatment other than the shuffle starting sometime in early to mid April. There is another, but I'm not sure I will get to eat that one. It took twice as long to ripen as other figs, I'm sure the cold fall nights stretched it out quite a bit.

Sorry to see such great figs get watered down by the weather.... still a great thing to be able to talk about even the possibility of eating figs fresh from the tree on 10/22... I realize that I am looking at it from the perspective of someone who hasn't experienced these figs in the fullness of their flavor and ripeness and therefore has no idea of the disappointment in the diminished flavor but... that is something I am working very hard on changing over the next few years.... :-)
