  • Azul azul, another spain black fig variety

Got cutting last year from spain (isabel moreno), never heard this variety before, but it is quite good, very sweet, medium type and no split on heavy raining season here in South east asia

I wonder if it's similiar with another black variety like noire de caromb or spanish mission.
You may only view thumbnails in this gallery. This gallery has 3 photos.
    ID, south east Asian region

I really like the leaf shape Wenz. Do you have a pic with a size comparison? Regardless, sound like a good find congratulations.

It looks like a mission type for sure. Whether or not it tastes like one is a different story.

Since I don't have Black Mission, could you tell me if the buds of this variety are red.

Wenz very nice and well done ! I also got this cultivar from Sra Isabel Moreno but no figs yet on mine .

The name Azul azul is not the variety name but one she came up with due to the blueish color [ azul =blue] still have the original picture she send me when i got my cuttings from her [picture below ] near Málaga ,Andalucia region .
I still have the nickname azul azul on my fig but trying to find the true name .

Because Sra Isabel got this cultivar locally my guess is that French cultivars, De La Reina and Bebera Preta are out of equation.
My opinion is also a Mission type, maybe Colar Elche but can also be Colar d'Albatera =Albacor or even Napolitana Negra.

The red layer is a kind of protective coating. In summer the buds are green.

And I also think that this variety is from the Mission family. It has an unnaturally high elasticity of the branches. They can be bent at an angle of 180 degrees without the risk of breaking.

Thanks for the link pic's cybercop ! Tell us what you think about the pics below also .

Never easy to ID a fig but looking at your leaf pictures they seem kind of same shape but skinny , the leaf of ''azul azul ''in question has a more fuller leaf .
Regarding the red pigment on the growing tips unless this is more visible during active growth I did went outside to have a look at my Azul azul and cannot see red pigment like the one shown on your photo above .

Done a good long search in Spanish this afternoon for everyone to have an opinion on the findings [ Sorry Wenz for taken over your post but this will benefit both of us ] and got some pictures of the variety that i found most closer to this ''Azul azul '' and seems to be Colar Elche .

The first picture is from my 'Azul azul ' tree outside [ still had this four on ] and shows the other leaf shape aside from the dominant one above
Second picture shows breba crop and a clear image on the leaf shape on bottom left and right .
Third pic shows main crop figs of same Colar Elche variety .
Fourth pic of Colar Elche fig [ along with others ] confirms the fig shape of azul azul in my opinion and maybe the right one
The Azul azul in question is a common type TWO cop bifera as far as i know .

Last picture is Pons Napolitana Negra figs for comparison .

Another clue according to figsvariety is that Colar Elche ,Albacor and Beers Black are synonyms of Black Mission

I have seen leaves with such a shape in the Black Mission variety.
