Anybody have any info on Sunfire fig?
Hi my name is Art. I buy fig cuttings-so I can grow more figs-so I can sell more figs-so I can buy more fig cuttings-so I can grow more figs....

I saw the ad and was operating under the assumption that it was another "assign your own name" deal.... the scammers have really expanded their efforts to market known and made up varieties. Don't know if this one is legit but if I didn't see it on the forum first.....

If I remember correctly, which there is a good chance I don't, that was a fig that either Gorgi or Barry on f4f obtained and named. That would have been about three years ago. If you search over there now, there is one thread but no good info.

Nice video! I'm glad Bass explained everything we need to know about the fig in the text and did a good job selling us on it.

Bass says on his website: "Collected from from a neighborhood in Allentown. Dark figs with deep red pulp. Originally from either Greek or Syrian origin. Very rich and sweet, and seems to show good cold tolerance. "

What are your thoughts on it? How is the flavor? Anything else you would liken it to?

        • #9
It's currently in a 3 gallon container, so not forming a taste opinion until I bump it up to 15 gallon. It's a smaller sized fig comparable to a MBVS. At one point this summer it had more figs on it than some that were twice it's size.

My small tree is currently leafless but has 4 or 5 figs still on it. They are ripening one at a time. Will load a pic when the next one is ready, just a couple of days.

Whatever happened to those fruit pics? I almost bought some cuttings of this last fall, but I showed "restraint" and bought something else instead two days later lol

The few remain figs got eaten by something non-human, so no pictures.

Bummer! I saw a guy in Spain who bought a tree screen tent B's covered his whole fig tree in a square seamed screen tent. It was cool. I guess if you are handy with a sewing machine you could buy betting bulk and make one. Too many critters eat our figs!

I have used Organza bags on the fruit themselves in the past, they worked well for certain applications. They are easy to source, cheap, and come in numerous sizes. I just haven't had any animal or pest pressure yet in my new location, but I have realized my squirrel population is much larger at my new house.

I also have a list of different companies commercial fruit bags, which an awesome extension agent at the Tropical Research and Education Center in Homestead compiled for me. I need to get samples from all the companies and trial them this year on my figs, pitombas, annonas, mangos, jaboticabas, grumichamas, sapodillas, and blackberry jam fruit, etc. I will post pics and specs. I think that should be a very productive trial to share with everyone here.

share with your neighbor down here in Lithia. Of special interest would be a bag for the loquot they grown in clusters at the end of the stem.

My Sunfire is on fire this year for me. On a 2-3 year tree there are probably 30 figs. Last year I got a couple good, but not great figs. Last year's color was amazing. If you have some or more pictures please post.

I was gifted a Sunfire fig plant. The more I look at it, the more it looks like another Mt. Etna fig. The leaves look similar. The fruits are very similar to Hardy Chicago too.

                              Here is my Hardy Chicago.
