I just got back from meeting with LSU and going to four of the LSU Research Stations this week and seeing Brain and Ryan here in LA. I copy and paste Brain info Accorging to Dr. Durion,a professor at the LSU fig propagation farm,the Hollier in the 70's, came out FIRST five years in a row at the LSU annual fig taste test,he also named this fig after his friend.
I was there at the 2013 LSU fig field ,what Dr.Johnson said about this fig,that the Hollier was a delicate fig and hard to grow. Great info that LSU is following up on with Dolton the Professor son. The Breeding control number is ( L57-13-85 ) for the LSU Hollier and will be the next release fig of LSU. According to LSU this will take some time the reason being last year they had some major cut backs in the Ag department so a few of the Professor were kinda force into retirement Dr, Charlie Johnson and Dr. Jimmy Bourdreaux being two that were working on the fig Breeding Program with LSU I was told they were given 30 Days to make a choice not much time so a lot of the research papers are still in Dr. Johnson office and it will take some time to process . The 2nd reason is Figs are not the top priority of LSU now LSU and the LA Department of Agriculture spent last month in China on a exchange with Tea Trees so now they are Researching Tea and Olive trees for cash crops here in the State plus with rice and sugar cane in top demand Fig have taken a seat in the back of the Bus. And thanks to Brain and Ryan T and Ryan H we all will keep you up to date as new information is release
