  • Mold on cuttings?

I pulled my cuttings out of the crisper last night and was dismayed to see what appears to be mold.

This must be punishment for not cleaning my cuttings before storing them...

So I got to work scrubbing them with Dawn soap and then dipped them in Hydrogen peroxide.

What do you think? Is it in fact mold? If so, do these even have a chance, or should I just throw these out and not risk contaminating the other cuttings while rooting?

Luckily, this only happened to 3 or 4 from the same batch.

Here's a picture. The suspected mold is on the bottom cutting on the left side.

I'd still give them a try. The mold on them from the fridge is due to much moisture.

Are you sure it is mold? I don't see any fuzzy growth, and the wood doesn't look like it has rotted. From the posted picture, I would have guessed some surface contaminant. Some of my cuttings have white streaks from sap drips during pruning. I would still try that bottom cutting as it has enough nodes that it will likely root even if it has some mold on the bottom. If it is actually mold, you can trim off the infected wood and root the rest.

I'm not sure if it is mold or not. I'll probably try to root them, but separated from the others just in case

They should root still just keep an eye on them. If they are cuttings you purchased from me a while back, pm me and I will send you a couple new ones.

I definitely didn't make this post to try to cast blame. This is my first time rooting and I am not even sure what mold looks like.

I'm going to try to root them regardless. It's my fault for not washing them when I got them.

Even if they were cuttings I sent, no blame and no issues I just know you got some cuttings from me and if those were then and I still have some left I'd send you some more The cuttings I still have are not in any way moldy so through shipping over the holidays and them being there in your crisper who knows what happened. But the ffer still stands if they were ones I sent I will send you some more. root those to though.

I saw the pic and the wood looked familiar. Bottom one looks like how the KB unk mother tree grows and the top one is how I cut them. Flat bottom and 1/4 to 1/2" angled cut with point above the bud.

                Just let me know.

I see a haze, looks more like a mildew than mold or could even be a water haze if you have hard water. The top cutting has a dull color and slightly pinched in at the bottom, my bet is it does not root or at least >50% chance but the bottom one looks perfectly fine. You could even cut that bottom one in half.

Plus that bottom cutting has a boatload of nodes, I'm with you on this Wills, Id say cut that bottom one in half and I think you'll get 2 trees just out of that cutting alone.. Top one does look a lil iffy but I'd still try to root it.. good luck!

I'm with Johnny -- that doesn't look at all like mold to me. If there is rot at all, it typically turns darker. Those look like healthy cuttings, especially the one on the bottom!

I went back to check on ship dates etc.

Cuttings were shipped on Dec 3rd. They were delivered on the Dec 7th to the address that was in the paypal payment. That address turned out to be a previous address. So the cuttings sat at that address, almost certainly not refrigerated for a week, from the 7th to the 14th when I got the update that the cuttings were found. Then they've been in the fridge again I assume for the past 15-16 days. Those cuttings have been through a lot and still look pretty decent

Let me know how rooting goes, I will help ship a few more cuttings if they dont take, they are varieties I have access to and will help how I can.

Hah, I had forgotten about that Lou. What an ordeal. Folks, make sure to check the address on PayPal before you hit Confirm.

There have been so many cuttings in the past couple months, it's hard to keep em straight.

I ended up cutting the "suspicious" ends off and will try to root all of them with those ends in a separate container.

Thanks for the offer and your generosity Lou!
