I may be last one to read tis but I think if works would cure under/overwatering along with not having the rooting in bin then cup then pot. Is like tv commercial "set it and forget it" only thing concern me is are fig roots as strong as rose roots? To push thru potato

It does not cost much to try. I would caution, however, one way to check for gnats is to lay a freshly cut potato on top of the growing mix. The larvae are attracted to the potato so when you flip the potato over in a couple of days you'd see them congregating.

Or you can make sand on bottom of pot and sand on top then no gnat?

Guys I tried this but the resulting tree was very prostrate and when it set figs they were very starchy dense not sweet and weighed about a pound a piece!!!
