  • The Official Violette Dauphine Auction to Benefit Ourfigs

Ok, same rules as Hershell's first auction. It will end in 7 days. Proceeds will go to help Wills defray some of the costs of running this forum.

I received a nice plant and cuttings from Leon Redmond, an extraordinarily nice guy. He gave me permission to do as I like with the cuttings. This is not the same as the UCD Dauphine, which I understand is a San Pedro type. VD comes from Europe and is considered to be an excellent fig. You will receive a well rooted 1 gallon plant pictured below.
Pictures of the fruit are from Leon. You can see more pictures and comments from Leon's post on the other forum.

My expectation is to earn a modest sum for the forum with the hope that it will inspire others to run similar auctions. We don't have to spend through the roof like on ebay. This will give us an opportunity to distribute some fig plants around the forum while having some fun.
    Let the bidding begin!
You may only view thumbnails in this gallery. This gallery has 6 photos.

Come on Frank, is it a real dark fig? Just tell me what you've heard about it. Frank is it better than the Alma Sisters and you know they are good.

Hershell, here is how Jon described the taste of VDauphine...

--I am in love. This one was fabulous - sweet, tasty, everything you want in a fig, and it is late October. Even Black Madeira did not taste this good.--

Hershell remember Jon does not exactly live in our neck of the woods or even on the right side of the Mississippi.

That sounds so good and I am drooling now. If Dave don't have this fig it must be soupier rare so that makes me want it even more.

Martin grows Black Madeira in Chicago, so I would imagine VD is possible.
