I was chatting with a lady at a fermented foods event last fall and she said she could give me a cutting of her only fig. It's unknown to her.. but she did describe it. It might ring a bell to some. I haven't tried to root it yet.. but will in about a week as time permits.
Description is.. Fig is mostly green but gets a little purple on it. Fig is VERY LARGE. The way she held her hand it looked like it wold be a good 2.5" + in diameter. I believe she said it had a decent sized longer neck than other figs she has seen.
The history is that the scion was "smuggled" out of Persia many years ago. She got a cutting a bit over a year ago and simply stuck it in the ground and it grew well.
Hope this might ring a bell with someone. Possibly in two or three years I'll have fruit.. but, I'll keep in touch with her to see if I can get a photo of the leaves and fruit late in the summer.. or whenever they ripen here in Santa Rosa.
