Now THAT is snow,if that much snow fell here I think British society would fall apart,we had like 1MM of snow on Friday,it caused overhead wiring on the train lines to come down..MM!.what are they building this country from Silly String?.At least this should keep temps down and help stop your trees waking up too early

When that much snow falls south of the Mason-Dixon Line, American society falls apart. Forget the snow, just freezing rain. I had occasion to be in Charlotte, NC one weekend when an inch and a half of slush fell. The city shut down. The scariest 30 minutes of my life was driving the rental car back to the airport, dodging the other cars spinning out of control.

Not a chance, the trees are in.the basement and the ground temp down there is pretty consistent about hovering at 50°F +/- 5°. Sometimes it sucks to have a dry, well insulated basement lol. If anything all that snow will insulated it a little better and keep it above 50! It's okay though, I have a dozen brebas forming so maybe I can grow them indoors, I know it is possible, and then put the girls outside in spring for the main crop.

I spent a winter in the Tennessee valley near Athens. 10 cars off the road every 5 miles with 1mm of snow. Idiots kept driving 70-80 mph. When you get snow down south you have no place to put it too. We build our roads and streets for it most of the time and have big equipment ready to handle it. Even down in Boston that gave major issues.

I LOVE Maine... the Black Hawk sized Mosquitoes....not so much... Was in Wells the last couple of years for Labor Day weekend and was fortunate enough to meet up with a super generous and friendly Greg Martin (THANK YOU, Greg). Ate lots of soft shell lobster and saw lots of beautiful scenery... tried going hiking along the Rachael Carson hiking trails and after quickly giving up a pint or so of blood to the mosquito's, beat a quick and hasty retreat back to our rental condo where I found it necessary to do emergency rehydration with Patron Silver and OJ.... Already planning a return trip this year perhaps revisiting Bar Harbor and the Acadia national Park...

You are always welcome to visit me up in the mountains Tony! The mosquitoes suck, but after July they usually go away unless you are on a pond. I'm in a lake region so they aren't too bad here, not a lot of standing water and plenty of breezes.

I get teased at work because my wife won't stop shoveling everything when I'm away. I don't mind, but she gets very obsessed with the clean driveway, makes me feel lazy. That snow removal technique Durant seem very safe lol

I just got in from a very similar scene (the piles of Maine snow, not the flame thrower), popped over to OurFigs to take my mind somewhere else, and, oh no....there it is again!!!

Buy your poor wife a snow blower. I lived in Grand Rapids Michigan when my husband had to go there to run a division of his company, I got a blower and ran the poop out of that thing I would put on my fur lined boots fox fur hooded full length quilted coat and go to town husband traveled all the time I was born in Charlotte NC and people don't realize there is no snow removal and it is only ice on the streets. That is why they close the schools at the first snow flake the weather can take a deadly driving turn in the matter of one hour.

I suspect that she secretly enjoys it, I can think of no other reason she would go out of her way to do it before I get the chance.

I'm surprised people from Maine consider anything less than 24" worth talking about - whether it's a snowfall or a lobster.

Probably doesn't count because it's the total from the last 7 days, but we've had about 3 feet of snow in the past week....back to back Nor'easters with more snow coming Wednesday. It hasn't been a very snowy winter to this point so we were owed!
