could use some advise

hi i bought my most expensive cuttings(2) off of e-bay last week ,and couldn't wait to root them .i washed them in bleach water (10%to 90%)
broke out a new brick of coir and stuck them in a clean container ..Now 3 days later both cutting have a fuzzy mold on em .. can anyone help?

I think the generally preferred method here is to gently rinse them off, let the surface dry and start over. This time with less moisture in your rooting environment.

I'm kinda confused. You should have the cuttings completely covered/encased with the coir. So unless your poking at them already you shouldn't see any mold. It's possible you are seeing lenticle matter and not mold, anyway..cover them good and leave them alone. Make sure and squeeze every drop of moisture from the coir.

I kinda agree here. In 3 days you barely should see any motion assuming the coco was clean

I received cuttings from a F4F member in three different years. I had more problems with their cuttings than any other cuttings. Mold, rot, etc. I do not know why there was a problem, but it was evident. I often wondered if there was some bug that barely existed in their environment but thrived in the central Texas climate.

this is the second set of cuttings that i got mold on from the same seller (won't say name) i rooted well over 100 cuttings this year as a rookie and did really well over 90% success rate ,coir was new, cuttings washed in bleach water .. the cutting did look like they were cut some time ago

Are you rooting these in a basement? If so, try an upper level of the house.

One thing to think about is "Were your hands clean?" If a person who made the cuttings or the person who was preparing the cuttings to root had something on their fingers that could create a problem. You or the other person could of handled something that would be food for mold. Wash them good then try again. Good Luck!

Clean tools with alcohol, reclean cutting and start again...it only takes 1 spore...and those buggers are reallllly tiny....you might coat the basal end of the cutting with one of the fungicides...or clonex...a bit of both fungicide and callus formation accelerant

I also agree based on my experience that the most likely cause is cold damaged cuttings. I've only had mold appear so quickly on cuttings that I later realized were taken from dead wood. This was off of branches that seem to show green cambium but when the weather warmed up it became clear that those branches were dead (and the cambium had become brown).

Can you take closeups of the cuttings where the mold is? Physan 20 (or cosan 20) works better than bleach.

i could take closeups but i cleaned them already ,cut the bottoms 1/4-1/2 inch till i got white middle
