  • I put some in the ground today.

The big one is a Turquesa, then there is a RDB, Kathleen Black, I 258 and White Greek. I may move the Myer lemon. I'm not sure what to do with the Pomegranate as it is not a good one, I may use to graft to though.

I plan on keeping the figs lower than the garage roof, so I can use it as a base to build a temporary screen structure from to keep the varmints out and away from my fruit.

So it was 17 F here this morning, on its way to 10 F overnight. I think you posted this just to make the rest of us feel jealous. (:

The first picture is my largest tree, and the second is a LSU Tiger that I planted in the ground (while dormant) about a month ago. Notice the about 8" of new growth on the LSU Tiger. Both pics taken today between the rain storms.

"What kind of tree is the large one?"

That is a very good question, and one that I would really like to be able to answer. It came with the house we bought at the beginning of 2016. I have posted on the forums a couple of times hoping for an ID. But nothing definite yet. I will be posting again this year for a second ID try, after I get some ripe fruit.

I want to update the profile photo on our Facebook page. Who has some fruit photos we can sift through and use? Post em up! Thanks in advance! Also If you

P.S. - Trying to ID this tree is what led me to the forums and my present addicted condition.....

LMAO well said! Very nice to have fruit trees come with the property! All I got was grass, a fast-growing weak-wooded tree (idk what type, but I see all the neighbors' break all the time), and a "silk tree." I've been cutting the trees back severely, which looks ugly now, but I believe that it will make the one stronger in two years... and the other (the silk tree, a horribly invasive species in this area) will continue to be cut back until it's gone - as the persimmons grow up around it.
I know it's terrible, but I didn't know Texas was that green! Looks nice.

I hate to bear bad news, but from the picture that is a bad fork on your big unknown. I see the stick, but put a fig load on that baby and some gusty winds..you may walk out to a split tree. If it were mine, I would lose one of them before you have problems. I had a cherry tree split in half once, I watch to prevent it now.
If you are really fond of the variety, you could set a 3-5 gallon air layer and plant a new tree this fall.

Alta, I'm from Los Angeles (mid-city). Is Altadena next to Pasadena?
LOl do you remember a drive-through store called Altadena? Or was it a dairy... long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away.
