  • Just a thought .......

I was replying back to Ginas post about making Vino and seeing rusty hook comment as well Gina comment to Rusty which gave me an idea.
Every year here in Illinois in August there is a festival called vintage Illinois wine festival it draws in a huge crowd now being figs aren't as popular as wine is it doesn't have to be that huge of a thing but what if we were to have an annual "Ourfig festival" ?
We could pick a nice location and people could bring fig cuttings, potted plants, food jams and anything else that is been made with figs and make it a weekend event ! I think I'm shooting myself in the foot because I live in Chicago and most people live in Florida or California or Chicago could be a great meeting place for everybody we could rent a forest preserve pavilion and barbecue music etc. i'll bring the beer ha ha Ha !
    Just a thought.

There are several regional fig get togethers throughout the summer/fall. A couple in NJ, I think there's one in the south east, one in PA, and so forth.

I have spoken with a few figgers in New England and we might try have a regional fig get-together in the Fall.

It sounds like you should try a regional fig get-together in the Chicago area. Any other Chicago area figgers out there?

Here in Santa Rosa there is an annual scion giveaway, put on by the redwood region CRFG....late in January...it's a grafting clinic, silent auction, raffle, information booths...all in one. Attended by a significant number of local folks looking to start a little something for their backyard....It's great. A "fig special" would be interesting......I just came up with the name for that drink, Gina.

I think I would just travel to where ever majority of ourfig members lived. Preferably on the ocean. I wouldn't want such lucky beach bums to have to come to this boring city. Maybe we could have it in WillsC new green house! Or everyone can save some $$ and next year we can have at my town in Italy?!
