  • Cheap Rootstock?

Looking for at least pencil thickness caliper rootstock. Anyone have any good ideas? The cheapest I've seen is this: https://www.starkbros.com/products/f...es/celeste-fig

Would be $21 and change from Stark Bros.

Yeah, I don't know the size Agristarts sells. Check your local Lowe's, mine has a rack of fruits in boxes at the front entrance for pretty cheap, HC figs are amongst them.

I would do $15 each but the shipping will kill you have a couple hundred RS 1 gallons I could bare root.

For future projects, you can also get seeds from Igor to grow.

I have been using Lowes figs in 1gal pots for rootstocks ($8 each here in FL). My grafting has had a 90%+ success rate. I select healthy looking specimens with a fully developed root ball and 2 or 3 stems of 3/8 to 1/2 inch in diameter. Not all their plants meet this criteria and they are not always in stock. Plant varieties have been marked as Brown Turkey, Ischia and Magnolia.

Haven't seen anything at Lowes yet. Will be on the lookout.

Lowes and HD were my first thought as well however they don't have stock now and when they get them in it will be with spring pricing and not clearance pricing. In the south and Florida in particular, the big box stores like Lowes are more likely to have stock on hand and priced attractively.... Up north, when someone serves you lemons, you make lemonade...

At my Lowes in FL fig plants are available all year. In Phila. you may have to wait for spring weather.

Hey fisherman ... How are the fish biting around Naples? Am planning on being down there in a few weeks and will be hitting Naples pier... Last year, the bite was good toward the end of March...

tsparozi: offshore fishing in Naples has been spotty for awhile, but things are coming back to life. Hopefully in few weeks fishing will be great!

When I go down for a week, I usually like to do some fresh water bassing as well as hitting the piers... Can't do too much fishing as the Bride would have my hide... This year will be driving down in the Ram with a view toward picking up a few plants as opportunity presents itself...

Tony. That looks like my best bet. Better than Wills perhaps.

I picked them up specifically for grafting and at that pricepoint with shipping, I couldn't do any better up here... Will try a few grafts while my Bronx Purple comes out of dormancy... I would have loved a few LSU Purple to graft onto since I heard the root balls on them are awesome but not at Brown Turkey prices...

I like dime size for both caliper thickness and price point... :-)
