My trees are budding and looking great. I just build grape vine trellis for my wife and now have 2 potted vines one on each side and the vines lightly attached to the structure with fig tree in ground underneath trellis. I spend all weekend making everything nice and comfy and news say tonight it may frost. Welcome to Chicago. Last week average 60F-81F daytime and 50's+ night time. Now Tis week low to mid 50's daytime and mid to high 30's night time (only few evenings) Do I need to cover everything again or will everything be ok and Make threw just fine? I need to move😔

If the plants are leafed out they might get damaged by the frost. If it's a light frost it'll probably just burn the outermost leaves and the plant push out pretty quickly. If the plants are dormant it should not hurt them. Not a bad idea to throw an old sheet over them to be safe, use fabric not plastic.

Okay I just going to cover with blankets because there about 20 small sprouted full leaf and a few hundred buds ready to completely open.

I ran an experiment this winter (if you want to call it winter) which included just this....on newly rooted cuttings they had just leafed out, 30 degrees....killed all small exposed leaves but the shoots remained and are budding out again, albeit slowly. These were 2 node cuttings which had 2" shoots and one or two leaves in January. No matt...50% shade cloth cover...I think they would have had more damage without the shadeRoss B. I just cover anyways. With my luck it will be 90F tomorrow and snow Wednesday. I love these. Is called brewlock from Heineken. Plastic keg with bladder in middle. I use razor to cut top and bladder out drill 4 hole and use tent spike to hold down in 50mph wind! You may only view thumbnails in this gallery. Cover them Mike! A one night frost will not kill the tree but all the new growth and push your season back another month or so. My inground trees were doing awesome with green buds and full of Brebas about a month ago until that one night that the temp dropped to 27 F and kill ALL new growth. They are still trying to come back as of today! You may only view thumbnails in this gallery. This gallery has 5 photos.5 Photos

Is it the actual "frost" covering that hurt the tree or if it's just cold without the actual frost just as bad?Zone 5 Chicago IL Wish list:
