Dry, dry, dry

Somewhat off topic, but it has been exceptionally dry here in SE Pennsylvania this spring. In the past month we have received one rainfall totaling seven tenths of an inch. I believe we normally receive over 4" over the same span. Now we are having July like temperatures and baking sunshine. All of my newly planted plants and many established plants are suffering and may be stunted this year. I only have so many hours a day to run around with buckets full of water!

It might rain tomorrow, I really hope so! I can't recall a spring that has been this dry. Heck, it rains more than this in the summer!

Ok, I'm done venting. I know it could be much worse like in California, but this is Pennsylvania! Oh well, gotta water the blueberries again. Even under 4" of mulch they are drooping.

Kelby, I would gladly share with you. We had one of the wettest May's o record but a pretty dry April.
Yesterday .75 inches of rain and today already received 2.56 inches and still raining. Its hard
to get just what we need, isn't it?

Our spring was wet, which is unusual and was hard on the blueberries and then once the BB were done it turned dry and this is when we are suppose to start getting our rain. According to my weather station in my yard we have had .94 this entire month. We did get .005 today and while that is hardly anything it is the first rain here in close to 3 weeks.

We've had the same problem, but as I am writing this, it's raining cats and dogs outside.

We actually have had (knock on wood) a pretty good balance of timely rains and warmth and sunshine. The figs are a bit behind where they should be because of the late Spring but otherwise everything is growing nicely here.

I will offer a friendly warning. We complained non-stop about the drought in Texas. Look what that is getting them.

And then there's the hail. Not only did we get all your rain (not complaining..much), but we still get our dang hail. We were out last night and when we got back I could see it hailed, there was still quite a bit laying around with piles at the downspouts. My yard looked masticated. At least all the rain had delayed my transplants from going into the garden, but man I was so close to finally getting some nice lettuce and spinach again. Luckily I shuffled my trees inside before we left because I could see some big storms off in the distance.

Possible thunderstorms here later today. It looks a bit iffy right now (in NYC). Hopefully, we get some rain. Supposed to get pretty windy, though.

Well, we got around .15 to .2" yesterday in a very brief thunderstorm. That will stave off drought for, oh, another 2 days. Slight chance of thunderstorms daily for the next week or so, but I'm not holding my breath.

Even though we had a record snowfall this year in Eastern MA, the spring has been dry like much of the Northeast. I never water my lawn and it already looks like it does in mid-July.

The local news station said we've gotten less than an inch for the month of May which is about 4 inches less than normal.

There are rumors of thunderstorms today and over the weekend. Let's hope they bring us some rain.

I read in my local news today that NJ is pretty dry right now in terms of rainfall averages. We got a thunderstorm yesterday that watered everything nicely and filled one rain barrel. We're due another storm tonight it seems - hopefully filling the other rain barrel. Some counties may get high winds and hail.

I hear you...our lawn is pretty much brown at this point. I've been watering like crazy and I've been putting off putting anything in the ground until things normalize. I've got three Japanese maples in pots I'm seriously afraid of killing if I transplant them.

As others have pointed out, it could be worse. I think a friend in northern Michigan had snow last week.

We ve been getting hammered by t-storms this past week and though you get all those busted limbs and monsoon rains ,at the end of the day I think the benefits are undeniable. The lakes are all full pool and everything grows amazingly well. There is very little or nothing we can do when mom nature gets angry so let's appreciate all the good we get and pray for those who suffer the worst .

Nothing for a stretch and now it's coming all in one wave. Also went from hot to cold. Went from occasional AC to heating the house to keep it out of the 50's.

And it is finally starting to dry out and warm up here. It has been so cold and rainy for the last month that most of my figs quit growing. It's way past time to get this growing season moving, I'm just now planting out veggies and such that should have been in the ground a month ago. I love the rain don't get me wrong.... Just wish I could spaced it out a bit.

I hope you got some of the rain that flooded NJ and other areas the last few days. I'm out of town this week but I got significant rain in northern DE Sunday night, with more expected. It's been a nuisance having to water everything regularly all spring, but on the bright side we don't have shortages/restrictions like CA!

Thank goodness we did, yes. My rain gauge said 3.5" Sunday through last night. A chance of some scattered showers most the week, too.

We got rain finally...two and a half days of mostly downpour and temperatures in the low forties after a couple of weeks of high 70s and high 80s. I was at my dog breeder's house in MA pruning her Japanese maples on Sunday and I was getting hammered with hail part of the time. Today it's gorgeous out and warming up a little. All is good in my yard.

It's getting pretty scary here in California now. While the winter storms sounded nuts on the East Coast this winter, they would have been a much-needed favor for us here. Now when we shower, we use a bucket to collect the water running while it's getting hot, and use it to water the garden. It's even more frowned upon to be seen watering your lawn than it is to go into a grocery store having forgotten your reusable grocery bags! My grass is completely brown except for weeds, but I can't let the garden go!

We've been in a drought for the last decade, water restrictions have been nuts so I truely do feel your pain.

I actually removed my sod and zeroscaped because of it.
