  • When is the last month I should allow new figs to form

What is the last month I should allow figs to form? I remember reading somewhere that we take the tiny figs off because we know they wont ripen in time.

Count backwards from your local first frost date...

For earlier to mid season ripening figs subtract 90 days...
For late season ripening figs subtract 120 days...

This is just a 'rule of thumb' your average daily temperatures and amount of sunlight will also affect the number of days, warmth and more sun decreases the days. Good Luck.

Herman2 had mentioned mid-July as a good benchmark, but as Pete said it depends on the varieties ripening time.

Herman2's date is based on his location in zone 7....
The last frost date calculation will work in any zone and is based on his rules of thumb.

Does a list exist with the common figs and what they are considered in terms of early ,mid or late growers? I once saw a gdoc of a nice list.
