  • Pots in ground.

I am putting all my trees in ground tomorrow at the farm (40-70 trees) being its almost August rmtgey only have couple month before it starts to get cold so tis summer I leave in pots and store in warehouse over winter. How you suggest to make big rioting holes in pots without damage to root?

Mike, I used a 3/4 inch wood drill and a well charged hand drill. If you can slip the root ball out, your home free, than you just slip it back in without disturbing much. Drill your holes on the sides of the pots just above the bottom, you'll be happy when you have to dig them up, easier to cut any roots that grow out of the pots. If you have holes on the bottoms try to block them so that there is only holes on the side of the pots. I drilled the holes with out removing the root ball and the trees didn't miss a beat. Good luck!
