That's awesome. I think there are a lot more figs in Chicago, in store, in ground, and in pot than anyone might realize.

        Well, there's this fellow: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7NGTYL3tnNY

Also, that summer garden outlet that I mentioned here - http://www.ourfigs.com/forum/figs-ho...hicago-chicago - always seems to sell off all its Hardy Chicago figs early.

Also mentioned there that 2 or 3 years ago I went to Adams and Sons garden center by Humboldt Park, and they had a handful of fig trees, maybe 2 or 3 varieties, nice shape but maybe pricey for their size.

Turns out that the garden center is, or was, set up on the east side of the mall not the west side, off Cermak and Harlem, by Tony's Finer Foods. I had thought the grocery was called something like Tony's Food Place but figured I would remember with more certainty if it actually had my name in it, though as it turns out it did, and I didn't. Last year, I got the last fig plant in June, so don't know if they would have any left by this point this year. Either way, I would be curious to know if they get their Hardy Chicagos from someplace local.

I doubt it. The Home Depot and big box store have them for sale. Nursery grown 10in tall but they call them porch fig. Is exact same fig. Leaf. Green pattern.

I bought a box of black figs from Whole Foods here in CA and tried them after tasting my first Col de Dame Gris fig off my tree. No comparison! The CdDG was so good it has spoiled me for figs that are just okay like the boxed figs. It was a first fig off a new tree, but it was still very good: a deep blood red color inside with a moderately sweet, strong berry taste that hinted mildly at strawberries. The best fig I've tasted so far.

Not bad for a boxed fig. Mine weren't as deeply red as your picture. I did have one ripe one with the deep red interior so far that was really good. Looks like Black Mission to me. Thanks for the tip
