  • Colar d'Albatera breba ripening.

While most of you americans are enjoying your main crops i have yet to taste my first fig of the year but it's almost there.
In Spain this is the nr.1 marketed breba due to it's huge size.
This is still a young tree (second year) and it produces for the first time.
It's nowhere near the promised 100 gram+ but since it's still a very young tree i hope it will improve in the future.

Your patience will be rewarded. If you protect it from critters

I did Bob, it's netted. Last year the birds only became a problem in october when most food for them got scarce.
But when they discovered figs are awesome they were feasting on them!

It might seem like 'most' but it is not.
Unfortunately there are a lot of us in the north or without greenhouses who are in the same boat Rob. I am expecting my first main crop figs probably from Malta Black and O'Rourke in 2-3 weeks. Hoping....

      That one looks nice.

Glad i'm not the only one Ed. I'm in 8b but our european zones differ a lot from the USA. We got mild summers and mild winters. Season here lasts til november though.

Nice looking fig Rob, thanks for sharing. What kind of net set up do you have. Is it just draped over?

      Today it was dead ripe.
Weighed 59 grams, not as good as Napolitana negra breba's which are my favorite but damn close.
      8/10 to me.

ID:	34501 Another one ripened today. This one had cracks like it's supposed to and was a lot better than the first one.
