Hi all.... As a newbie I want to jump right into the fig frenzy....I'm looking for a couple rare figs.....martinenca rimada, Montenegro and de la reina MP. I would prefer to avoid the craziness of eBay but I'm willing to pay some $$ for these varieties. If anyone has any of these for sale please send me a private message. Happy fig-ing!!

Why not to start with more common variants, learn about the science of growing figs in container or in ground, then to start with rare variants? Would be upsetting to lose money or the plant due to lack of experience. Your decision. Good luck.

Navid....I respect your balanced and wise advice/approach, although I'm just drooling over some of the more unusual varieties. I do have lots of the more common/easily obtainable varieties on my list. I am sure many $10 figs will taste just as good as a $300 fig....perhaps I'll get many common varieties and spring for one or two of the "daydream" figs....
Right now I am growing Calvert, Long Yellow, Col de dame gris, Niagra black and Longue d'Aout.....Thanks to Wills for some of thoseAdam Vista, CA 9b

Ryan....I'll try to be patient as well. Check out your wish list of figs....I guess those are the ones to get. Especially the coll de dama Blanca/negra. Such an interesting fig. Perhaps this fall wil provide lots of cuttings to go around
