  • Ischia Black UCD

This is my second ripe main crop IB this year. I never realized how similar this fig is to a very good RdB. Taste and shape are very similar. Different leaf pattern of course and it doesn't grow nearly as good as a RdB. Many more to come.
It has a very nice berry taste and a bit of a citrus tang.

My Ischia black is not from UC Davis so it isn't the real deal. If anyone could airlayer me a small tree I would have a lot to trade. I put the black ischia in the ground and now gonna pull it out. PM me if possible I know how slow they grow.

        Brian,

You would not want a layer from mine, unless sometime it gets over the FMV and whatever else ails it. It's 3? 4? years and last fall it was probably a full 6 inches, died to ground in a garaged pot over winter maybe 6 inches again. I don't know it will ever take off. Not sure if it will ever manage a airlayer.

I suggest anybody growing some of these runts serious consider taking a cutting this winter and grafting it onto some other vigorous tree. I'm kicking myself (figuratively) for not having done so myself. This worked out great for my Black Madeira and I'm hopeful of some vigor coming about by trying it with IB as well.
