  • Beetles and Figs

My son saw some interesting beetle activity while eating ice cream at a local farm yesterday. What do you call these beetles? Green June bugs? Fig beetles?

Japanese beetles. The damned things are a plague on my wife's roses, the Cherokee roses, and the wisteria.

Those don't look like the Japanese beetles around here. Coloration, size, and shape don't look consistent with the Japanese beetles I've seen. Pete's suggestion of fig eater beetle looks right to me.

The things we call japanese beetles here are tiny compared to these monsters

Fair enough. Took a second look at the pic to determine size and those are rather large. Coloration is almost identical to the Japanese beetles around here, though.

I think the japanese beetles come earlier in the year. Ill just call them fig beetles from now on.
