  • Celeste 2018

finally picked my first celeste of the season. I didn’t think it was possible, but I think I may have let it hang for a day to long. It was so sweet it gave me an aftertaste akin to stevia, that super sweet kick to the teeth

Tree Candy! Honestly though, that’s possibly the sweetest thing I’ve ever eaten.

One can only imagine how sweet it would be if you dried it down.

Interesting fact. A big reason why there are so many Celeste trees in the south is because during the “War of Northern Aggression” Celeste figs were dried and crumbled to be used as an ersatz for sugar

My first taste of a celeste is only a couple days away, can't wait. But,... Remind me fig Lebowski, who was it that attacked Fort Sumter in a violent act of treason against the United States?

My in ground Celeste is second in overall sweetness to my LSU Gold. Gold seems to do well in NC7b and both had very little die back this past winter.

That is not a typical celeste 3 lobe leaf. It looks like an immature leaf, which can vary widely from tree to tree and limb to limb. Celeste will always be the fig all others are compared with for me.

My tree is three years old at this point, and every leaf looks similar to that one and has since I got it. I’ve talked to a few folks who have trees with similar leaves to mine.
I got it from Stark bro’s, and the only 3 figs they sell are Celeste, Chicago Hardy and LSU Purple.
The fruit looks and tastes like a Celeste to me. I’m very happy with it, and more so since I seem to have a tree that’s different from the “norm”

Dang that’s the most beautiful leaf I’ve ever laid eyes on! It’s almost perfectly symmetrical and looks like a snowflake. Get that fig off the leaf lol.

Your Celeste fig at first glance reminded me of dried dates. Was it as sweet and tasty as a very good dried date? I’ve had a really sweet fig from TJs last year (sweet enough to make your tongue get that sugar overdose sensation) and I didn’t care for it. However I absolutely love dried dates for some reason. I might be interested in sugar figs if they have that special something that dried dates have

I’ve eaten dried dates before.. this was the sweetest thing I’ve ever eaten, but I also left it on the tree for about 3 days after I felt it was ripe enough to eat.
There is only one real way to find out if you like it.
            You just gotta get one.
I’ve got a couple of little ones that will need some love, but I think would have no issues travling. If you’re interested you know how to get ahold of me. =^)

Lol that’s one fine looking leaf Thank you! If I end up expanding up to 5 named varieties I’ll know who to turn to. Your special Celeste would certainly be welcome to join my little circle
