  • Not Longue D'Aout - still trying to figure out what it is.

    Back in 2013 I posted this :http://figs4funforum.websitetoolbox....post1288407723
    on the Figs4fun forum.
I still haven't figured out what the second variety pictured in post #1 is yet.
Hoping someone here may have some idea.

Forgot to mention that for 2013 , 2014 and this season so far all of the fruit has fallen off at half to three quarter size.
The cut fruit picture is of a half size fallen fruit this season.

Kerry, you say that it originally came from Baud, yet it drops all fruit...so...it could be a mix-up.

Or, did it come to you by way of California? If so, it might be a seedling of something from Baud. Or a seedling of something not from Baud (it has got a seedling Mt Etna look to it!).

Baud aside, some of the leaves and the fruits on the tree look most like my Nero ... which may be Black Ischia.

That said, it could be anything.

          Hi Tony ,
It came to me in a trade with The celt on f4f , so no time in California.
I'll try to get better leaf shots sometime.

Bob , there still is some fruit on it that is more full size. Hope it ripens , but even if it drops I'll get some better inside shots.

I'd like to know what it is , but if nothing else I could bud something great onto it.

Kerry, interesting enough I have a tree that looks a lot like this that came to me from a F4F member in the NE
and it is suppose to be Lounge D'Aout. I put it in ground in April 2014 and it died to the ground. While in its pot
it dropped all its fruit. It dropped all its fruit in ground last year. This year it has fruit but it remains to be seen
if it ripens any. None has dropped so far this year.

"so far all of the fruit has fallen off at half to three quarter size" - Wouldn't this suggest that it is a smyrna fig that requires cross pollination?

Absolutely Don , but since it seems to have originated from Baud I was hoping it would be something great that just needed a bit of patience.
At this point I think the wrong variety got shipped to the original buyer , but I still was hoping someone would recognize it as a particular variety.

Mike as far as I can see yours looks exactly like mine and acts the same.

Kerry, BTW this is not the same plant that came from you. I have had this
for a while but didn't know what it was going to be even though it was called
a LDA. Still not sure either.

Mike the LDA I sent you was the real deal that I got from Jose.

                  Kerry,
My Rouge de Bordeaux had dropped all it's fruit as well for the last few years and I was going to trash it as it takes up a lot of space. Then this year a wonderful crop of excellent figs - figs so impressive I'm going to add at least one more tree.
                  ???
I'll wander around tomorrow and see if I can find similar leaves to yours but I got rid of almost all my unknowns or mis IDed trees including the ones I got from thecelt.
                  Good luck.

Is this what you sent me as "Celt's LDA Not"?

Yep Will , at the time I sent the cuttings a mutual fig friend told you he was pretty sure it was Melanzana M.

Mine has a couple figs on it and i'm pretty sure whatever it is it does not need the wasp. The reason is the figs that need the wasp feel different, they feel spongy, these are solid. We shall see, will keep an eye on it. They do grow well, have the one in ground and a couple still in small pots.
