  • Rob's Genovese Nero Not and another Unknown

Well I guess They are both unknowns. I don't know what Rob's is but I don't believe its the same as any of my other figs. Really a pretty good fig does anyone think they have figured out what it is? I hope someday to obtain the I258 looking one. It's high on my trade list if someone wants to contact me. The Unknown I have posted before. Identity of this one still has me puzzled. It's sure not the Brogiotto Bianco it came labeled and It came from Germany a few years ago. This one broke off while I was once again trying to id so was not quite there yet.

Come on, put in your 2 cents. I'm gun shy. Okay, I'm not really shy of guns, but you get the idea.

      Strudel...

Could this fig be Giant Black Fig - (Grosse Schwartze Feige) - from Germany? This obscure variety showed up few years back, on Figs4Fun forum. I think a man named Marius has grown this German fig. Maybe a comparison could be made with leaf and fruit. Good luck with your German beauty.

        Phil,

I remember I read somewhere that the
Rob's Genovese Nero Not is in fact the Texas Blue Giant. I think it was on f4f.
Do you have a TBG by any chance to compare?

I was gifted a small "GN", I'm not sure if it is the "GN not" or the real thing, I think it is the not. Is it possible get leaves from both posted please?

          Igor,
Thats good to know on Texas Blue Giant as a possible. I don't have it to compare.

          Frank,
On the other I have looked at Giant Black German as a possibility The fruit is very similar but The leaf at this point doesn't really look the same to me yet, but we know how leafs can vary. It does tend towards a prostrate growth pattern and at least one of Marius pics looks to it as well. I did not come with German in the name, but did come from Germany It came labeled as
Brogiotto Bianco I am not naming it anything, but in my personal records I call it Unk Germany but I have noticed it is similar.

          Scott,
I can post pictures from my Robs tomorrow but I can't manage the other until I manage a trade for one. I think there were some threads last year that showed both

This whole post was missing in action, and not show up in forum unless you looked at recent posts by strudeldog until Wills put the followup test post. I thought I had lost my posting privileges.

Hi Phil, I can't help you with the 2nd fig, but I can add that in my opinion, the brebas on the Rob's GN tasted much better than the maincrop this year. It's rediculously prolific, been ripening big figs non-stop since the middle of June. I have a young Genovese Nero that I am still waiting to ripen, but they are close. The first pic is leaves of the Rob's, and the next 2 are the GN(I hope).

Looks great Gary, When you say they look close you mean the foliage correct? My young plant is productive covered many that should ripen. I hope winter corporates that I get some Breba as I put it in ground

I just meant that the GN figs are close to ripening. They are nowhere near the size of the Rob's fruit.
