  • When is safe to start zone 5 cuttings ?

    Ciao Family

Okay back to business. FIGS!! Nightly the weather flirts with the low 40F degrees. Most of my trees look great but some have dropped all or most their leaf. Must I still wait for first freeze ? There is a few completely hardened off a few semi hardened and a few green.

    Thoughts?

You can take cutting at any point and store them in the fridge. I like to wait for a couple frosts so the wood is fully dormant, but that's just me. Unless you have a good set up indoors or a greenhouse to root them in I would wait until a bit later to actually start rooting them.

How do yo store them in the fridge? Ziploc bags? Saran wrap? Any moisture?

I just bought some cuttings from herman2 and would like some tips.

      Thanks.

I've gotten them in all manner of ways, never noticed anything better than another. I just go with ziploc bags, maybe a slightly damp paper towel.

Tis weekend in mid 30's then back to 50's.

Wrap with blanket for couple nights until temps stay low?

Leave them be because is only 2 nights of 35F and days in 70's

Or take cuttings and Burry them for the winter? Most still green limb.
