  • Unk Carini likes Vegas!

My uncle moved from VA to Las Vegas less than a month ago. I gave him a Carini tree to take with him. If anyone recalls, this variety came from my grandfather. So it meant a great deal to give his son a tree. Within 3 weeks, it has broken dormancy and has exploded with growth. It adapted rather quickly to the warmer climate. He sent me this picture last night.

Looks great, I am hoping it likes PA also when my cuttings get out in the sunlight when the eternal winter finally ends

How old was the tree you gave him? Nice looking brebas popping!
Cuttings you sent me have produced some of the most vigorous plants of my winter crop, I've got high hopes for it up here in Maine.

The tree is on its 3rd year. I think he has it in a 7 gallon pot.

        That is fantastic!!

I have several cuttings that I will be up potting this weekend, they are doing great! I can't wait to taste the figs in a couple years.

              Outstanding! Congratulations to your uncle!
They were such strong rooters for me and looked like they were coming along beautifully. Unfortunately, fungus gnats liked Carini, too.

Looks like it's gonna do just fine out in Las Vegas. Ask your uncle to take pics in the Spring and Summer. Do you think he'd consider planting in-ground?

I think he may plant it in ground. Not sure what type of soil they have though.

I bet with the long hot summers in vegas it becomes quite the producer as well.

I would like to know what other cultivars do well in Vegas. I'd like to bring some trees to some friends in Henderson.
